Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies

Ilari Sahamies is a professional online poker player well known in the world of online poker as “Ziigmund”. He was born back in 1983 in Helsinki, Finland. Back in the days when he was at school he practiced a lot of sports including: wrestling, soccer, basketball and diving. He was also good at playing pool and managed to win a couple of junior championships.

He was always interested in sports and games and he first saw a game of Texas Hold’em on a Finnish TV channel. After his first contact, back when he was only 15 years old he tried to play poker at home with a couple of friends and he was attracted by the game.

He started high school but his studies had to suffer due to the fact that poker became more important. He managed to graduate after 4 years, and he was serious about a professional poker player career. The moment he was 18 years old he visited the Grand Casino from Helsinki in order to play poker and only 2 years after that this was his full time profession.

He started to play poker online at Full Tilt Poker at the end of the year 2006 and only few months later he started to take part of the highest stakes games there and beating players like Phil Ivey. In the year 2008 Ilari Sahamies managed to win $1.6 million at Full Tilt Poker NL Texas Hold’em, Omaha and HORSE games.

Right now his next step in the online poker career was a sponsorship contract with Power Poker.
